Wie bedanken uns ganz herzlich bei Herrn Thomas Sassen der Cuxhavener Nachrichten!
For our English speaking readers:
"Maritime Conference on Legal Questions in the Shipping Industry. Instructors send out an invitation to visit the State Maritime College. Attorney Erik Kravets and his wife Audrey have been giving instruction at the State Maritime College in Cuxhaven about legal questions involving shipping, such as maritime commercial law, since 2013. An international maritime conference at the State Maritime College, organized by Kravets, will treat upon these topics on the 19th and 20th of March. Expert speakers from abroad and the region will be in attendance. The keynote speech will be given by the American consul from Hamburg, Michael Gray.
"The two day conference primarily addresses shipowners and shipping industry professionals, but is also specifically designed to interest students at the State Maritime College, for whom a reserved contingent of 30 discounted seats is being held free. The number of participants is limited to 120. Registration closes on the 9th of March. To register visit the website of the German American Maritime Institute (www.maritime-institute.de), of which Kravets is the president.
"Target group is students. Kravets cares about the future of young talent. "We want to ensure that the next generation of German mariners can profit from this expert knowledge. That is the point of the partnership with the State Maritime College." With the help of the conference scholarships, students can network with shipping industry representatives, learn a lot about current topics and experience a great time in Cuxhaven. Audrey Kravets, who is a Californian attorney-at-law, and Captain Michael Gross are part of the leadership team. A roundtable discussion with high-ranking representatives of international organizations will convene on the second day of the conference to discuss European and American maritime arbitration court decisions and to attempt to evaluate these.
"The liability of captains and carriers pursuant to the new maritime commercial code will be intensively discussed. Together with Dr. Sarah Fiona Gahlen of the University of Kiel, the Kravets team will treat upon these matters from the German Commercial Code's perspective and also from the perspective of the United States' rules. In addition to all this, events dealing with e.g. the Maritime Labor Convention and ship financing are on the agenda."
